Twice a year the little red truck from Missoula, Montana arrives at the Kate, and kids line up to get into the show! Kids grades 1-12 audition on Monday and after casting is complete, the team has just 5 days to learn their lines, the choreography, and get into their costumes for the performance on Saturday. The program brings along two teaching artists who spend all week working with children to get them ready for the big show and teaching a little confidence, respect, and creativity along the way.

Rapunzel – July 3-8, 2023
An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) original adaptation of Rapunzel on July 3 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Those auditioning should arrive at 10:00 am and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
Students 1st grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 10am-12pm and 12:30pm-2:30pm each day.
Rapunzel will be presented on July 8 at 11am & 1:30pm at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in Old Saybrook is presented locally by The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.
There is no charge to be in the show but there are no complimentary tickets for performers. Everyone must purchase tickets to attend the performance.

SYNOPSIS:
Would it surprise you to know that the story of Rapunzel happened in France? Well, it didn’t really, but our story takes you on a frivolous frolic through the French countryside. The Ogres garden in the Mushroom patch while the Corn and Potato spies report back to Madame Gothel. Frenchy and his intense friends, the Wood Elves, do their best to help Rapunzel escape the grasp of Madame Gothel. The lost Prince, Rapunzel’s parents, and her friends the Unicorns try to help. Just when you think it’s safe to cross the bridge, a Troll and Three Billy Goats Gruff get in the way. It doesn’t help that the Three Bears (or is it four) confuse Rapunzel with Goldilocks and chase her through the forest. Add to that the Gremlins trying to play tricks on everyone, and you have chaos! Well, it’s not that bad because the Pixies foil the Gremlins’ plans most of the time. In short, Rapunzel and all the rest of the characters tell a silly tale of personal triumph and friendship.
