Mike Pender's Searchers is fronted by lead singer and guitarist Mike Pender formerly of The Searchers. Pender left The Searchers in December 1985 hoping to explore new musical directions while preserving the classic 12-string guitar style that he helped to popularize.
Legends that exploded from Liverpool's Cavern Club alongside the Beatles, the Searchers stormed the United States in 1964 and headlined the Ed Sullivan show as well as venues all across America. The Searchers were one of the most influential bands of the that era, and it was lead singer Mike Pender played the jangly Rickenbacker 12 string riffs on hits such as "Needles and Pins" , which inspired much of the West Coast music revolution epitomized by the Byrds. Along the way the Searchers popularized the tunes of classic songwriters including Tony Hatch ("Sugar and Spice"), Jackie DeShannon ("When You Walk In the Room" ) P.F. Sloan ("Take Me For What I'm Worth"), Jack Nitzsche ("Needles and Pins", written by Jack and Sonny Bono), and Leiber and Stoller ("Love Potion Number Nine"). Those songs are among the 14 U.S hits the Searchers charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
