Jane Fonda is nominated for best lead drama actress for her Broadway show, “33 Variations.” The play is also nominated.

During an interview with Tom O’Neil of the Los Angeles Times and GoldDerby.com, she was asked about Katharine Hepburn.

It concerned “On Golden Pond” and about Hepburn’s “friendly” competition over Academy Awards.

Interesting comments by Fonda.

Here’s a chance to ride around in the boat featured in the Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda heart warming 1981 Oscar winning film “On Golden Pond.” It was called the “Thayer IV.”

It’s featured in an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. It’s up for bid on Ebay.

The seller in Minnesota, Jamison Kohout, says one of the two Chris-Crafts on the set was destroyed in a scene where Henry Fonda’s character gets ejected from the boat. Kohout says what he has for sale is the remaining 22-foot long boat viewed as the collector’s item from the movie. He says it’s been stored in a climate-controlled garage. The sale ends January 1, 2009.

Have a look.

Follow up: The Thayer IV sold for $47,000.00!

Katharine Hepburn and Mark Rydell

Academy Award nominated, Director, Mark Rydell hit a home run when he cast Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda in the movie “On Golden Pond.” Hepburn and Fonda both won Oscars. It was Fonda’s first Oscar and Hepburn’s fourth. The 1981 film will long be remebered for the two actors who in their twilight years brilliantly brought to life their characters.

Currently Rydell is serving as President of the jury presiding over the 32nd Montreal World Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec.

In all, Rydell…the classically-trained actor from the Bronx, was nominated for an Oscar 26 times.

ernest-thompsonOscar winning playwright, Ernest Thompson is busy teaching his craft, make that “crafts” (acting, directing, and writing) to others on a farm in New Hampshire. The Author of the play “On Golden Pond,” which he wrote at age 28, now runs a company called Whitebridge Farm Productions.

The movie “On Golden Pond” won Katharine Hepburn an Oscar. “On Golden Pond,” is still one of the most-staged theatrical productions ever.

Thompson also wrote the play “The West Side Waltz” in which Hepburn starred.

What’s going on at ‘Whitebridge?” Well he’s still writing plays one called “Ax Of Love,” and is writing and directing movies….”The Love Line,” and “Elysian Farm.”

The father of three has for the last ten years been holding workshops in the Lakes Region where he lives for young aspiring writers, and directors and actors.

Oh and he’s putting some of his words to songs too. This is one multi-talented guy, after graduating cum laude from American University, what would you expect?

Perhaps we can entice Mr. Thompson to come down to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center and Theatre and take a look around.
