These Katharine Hepburn Wardrobe items are located at The Connecticut Historical Society and are beautiful. They are the work of “Valentina” who designed for many of the stars of old Hollywood including Greta Garbo. Katharine Hepburn was tiny, the jacket is about a size 2. The trousers about a size 2 or 4. Though Hepburn was about 5’7″ she had very long legs.

The CHS is continuously gathering information about this wardrobe collection so if you can help them out with any photos that would indicate where Ms. Hepburn may have worn this outfit please comment.

Hepburn being such a style icon, fashionistas are still raving about her today, for instance go to www.fashionmefabulous.blogspot.com

Black silok jacket worn by Katharine Hepburn

This black silk jacket is another item in the Connecticut Historical Society collection.

I know what you’re thinking,”I’ve got to get in the car and head there to see Katharine Hepburn’s wardrobe” and you know what? the CHS at 1 Elizabeth Street in Hartford would love to have you stop by.

Anyway, this silk jacket worn by Hepburn in more modern times is completely hand made, even the interior of the jacket is to die for. It was designed by Valentina Nicholaevna Sanina Schlee (“Valentina”). You can see a faint french red cording down the front of the jacket. The red cording carries out in the interior of the jacket on all the seams.

The CHS is trying to track down where Ms.Hepburn may have worn this. Has anybody seen photos of her in this item? Let us know.

On September 21st, 1938,  it came without warning. As the story goes, Katharine Hepburn was out playing golf in Fenwick as the monster storm was approaching. Hepburn and many other rode out the storm in Fenwick.

There was no radar or satellite or buoys. Nobody had any idea about what was about to roar ashore. Many experts today believe it would be likened to what we now know as a category 4 Hurricane.

Nearly 700 died in the storm. Along coastal New England 9,000 homes were destroyed including the Hepburn place in Fenwick.

These pictures, from the Connecticut Historical Society, show Kate sifting thru the ruins. So vast was her love of Fenwick, she would rebuild the home within one year, raising it several feet to try and keep any more storms at bay and stronger, out of brick, not wood. Nearly 60 years later that brick has held up just fine, leave it to Kate.

Two photos. First, Katharine Hepburn’s Golf Bag and Clubs. The second, Katharine Hepburn in 1938. Kate would have been about 31 years old. It’s believed she was seated on the Fenwick Golf course, you can see her club by her shoes.

These items are currently owned by the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford, Connecticut. On this web site you will be seeing more from the CHS Hepburn Collection. There are some very special items. I will be posting as quickly as I can because these materials will be a real treat for Hepburn fans, you can’t find it anywhere else.

Can’t you just see Hepburn taking a swing with these at the 9-hole Fenwick Golf Course? There are many stories about her golfing days in Fenwick and in California with, for instance, one time billionaire boyfriend Howard Hughes.

There is quite an article on Hepburn and Hughes playing some golf out West. I think you’ll get a kick out of this story on www.golfonline.com

Don’t forget, you can make all of the pictures posted bigger by clicking on them.
