Manhattan, watercolor by Katharine Hepburn
New York City, watercolor by Katharine Hepburn
Two watercolors done by Katharine Hepburn in the 1950′s. It’s believed she started painting in the 1930′s about the time she started dating Howard Hughes. She continued painting into her 80′s.
Lobby Card by Jewett Bubar
Speaking of art, this is the work of Jewett Bubar. He was a commercial artist for Paramount Pictures during World War I and could crank out these lobby cards at the rate of 6 to 8 a week.
He would create the lobby cards for all the movies debuting in San Francisco.
This work was that of Katharine Hepburn from the 1933 movie “Morning Glory” for which she won her first Academy Award.
This was done in red chalk. It is of note, because there seems to be an illumenescence in all of the areas in which there was no chalk.
See you at “The Kate.”
