Riviera Country Club

This is the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

This is the site of the1952 Katharine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy move “Pat and Mike” was filmed.

Of course Hepburn had to play the course to show her abilities in the sport which were quite good. Hepburn honed those skills back in Fenwick, Connecticut on the 9-hole course on which she lived. Hepburn’s golf scores? she shot in the 70′s.

Two photos. First, Katharine Hepburn’s Golf Bag and Clubs. The second, Katharine Hepburn in 1938. Kate would have been about 31 years old. It’s believed she was seated on the Fenwick Golf course, you can see her club by her shoes.

These items are currently owned by the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford, Connecticut. On this web site you will be seeing more from the CHS Hepburn Collection. There are some very special items. I will be posting as quickly as I can because these materials will be a real treat for Hepburn fans, you can’t find it anywhere else.

Can’t you just see Hepburn taking a swing with these at the 9-hole Fenwick Golf Course? There are many stories about her golfing days in Fenwick and in California with, for instance, one time billionaire boyfriend Howard Hughes.

There is quite an article on Hepburn and Hughes playing some golf out West. I think you’ll get a kick out of this story onĀ www.golfonline.com

Don’t forget, you can make all of the pictures posted bigger by clicking on them.

Oh, and have you signed up for the newsletter yet?

The Former Home of Katharine Hepburn, a View from the Fenwick Golf Course

The Former Home of Katharine Hepburn, a View from the Fenwick Golf Course

The Borough of Fenwick in the Town of Old Saybrook, Connecticut is world famous because of Katharine Hepburn so it’s no wonder that its 9-hole golf course which runs past the old Hepburn Estate is too. The house in the photo was her place.

There’s a cute article written by Anthony Pioppi on the website www.golfclubatlas.com that you may enjoy reading. It will give you a real sense of the personality of the course that Ms. Hepburn played often. You can’t beat the views from this course of Long Island Sound. This magical place of Fenwick is just a short distance from the Hepburn Theatre.
